Coffee Table

The coffee table is

1568mm long,

665 wide at its widest point

450mm high

It is solid Huon Pine. The top is one slab of pine approx 32mm thick. The legs have also been cut from a single slab of similar thickness, cut down the middle at 45 degrees to produce the 2 V shaped legs. The exposed edges of the slabs have been cleaned of residual bark using a wire brush so the solid surface of the original log is revealed.

The magazine rack underneath has been made from 3 huon pine boards, each 20mm thick, joined together by using the conventional joinery process.

The magazine rack is slotted into slots cut into the legs. The slots and shelf have been shaped to prevent movement of the shelf once the table was assembled.

The legs are attached to the top by means of mortice holes routed into the under-side of the top and tenons cut in the tops of the legs to fit the mortices and lock the whole structure together.

The table has been fine sanded and finished with 5 coats of a clear water-based polyurethane which has been developed here in Tas to reduce the yellowing of the Huon Pine with age.
